ECOLOGY MODEL
The Ecological Perspective
The centerpiece and major focus of the Health Education and Leadership Program (HELP) during the second phase of the project (2000-2005) was the development and promotion of an environmental, or ecological, approach to campus health. The project promoted a healthy campus environment by assisting student affairs professionals - including, but not limited to, health promotion professionals -- to adopt a broader concept of a healthy campus rooted in an understanding of the complex relationships and interactions that shape students' health, health behaviors, and health-related attitudes. HELP's ecological approach to campus health was based on concepts developed by James Banning, Ph.D., of Colorado State University; Dr. Banning assisted HELP in applying those concepts and ideas to its activities and models.
